Welcome messages

Hartmut Schauerte

Dear exhibitor,
Dear visitor,

I warmly welcome you to the tradeshow “LASER – World of Photonics China 2008” in the name of the German federal government.

This year, a special event is taking place within the framework of this tradeshow as an industry exhibition, the “German World of Laser & Photonics”. Some 60 German companies and institutions will be presenting technologies and services “made in Germany” at the highest level over three days. Live demonstrations of very current area of application for optical technology in material processing, life sciences and illumination will be introduced in special exhibitions. Innovative technologies and their applications will be presented and practically demonstrate the state of development of German companies in this field.

In the name of the German federal government, I would like to thank the Munich International tradeshow and its partners in the China for the support. We wish a successful tradeshow experience to all of our presenters and visitors to the “German World of Laser & Photonics” as well as the “LASER – World of Photonics China 2008”.

Hartmut Schauerte
Parliamentary Secretary of State of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and Commissioner of the Federal Government for Small and Medium Sized Businesses

Dear exhibitor,
Dear visitor,

“Made in Germany” has an excellent reputation throughout the world. The optics industry has been contributing to this seal of quality for several years. Every fourth laser system for material processing is from Germany, in the field of medical technology Germany is the second largest exporter in the world. Numerous innovations which will be presented at the “German World of Laser & Photonics” demonstrate the worldwide leading position of the German industry in this area.

As in many branches, Germany and China can look back on a close relationship in the optics industry. Over the past few years China has developed into an important purchaser of German high-tech optical technologies. At the same time the country serves, to a large extent, the growing demand for optical components, which can be used worldwide in consumer products.

With the special event at the “LASER. World of Photonics China 2008“, the German optics industry made use of the opportunity to intensify the good and cooperative relationship between the two countries. Whether companies are looking for purchasers or partners for research projects or it’s individual high-tech solutions they’re interested in, the special event is the place to be.

I would like to wish all the exhibitors and visitors successful business and a pleasant stay in Shanghai, and hope you establish many positive contacts at the trade fair.

Executive Vice President of the Business Unit Advanced Materials at Schott AG

Dear exhibitor,
Dear visitor,

Welcome to the German World of Laser & Photonics in Shanghai – this is a special event linked with the German Pavilion at the LASER.World of Photonics China.

The photonics market in China is still growing fast. The Peoples Republic of China is one of the biggest export target markets for photonic products and the expectations for business are great. In the first three quarters of 2007 Germany exported photonic products amounting to 51 million Euro to China - which is an increase of 41.81 % compared to the previous year.

The LASER.World of Photonics is one of the leading photonics trade fairs in China. In 2007, a number of 144 exhibitors participated in the trade fair and 9.088 visitors were registered. This year we are very pleased to announce a special event where the German innovative achievements in photonics are displayed, the German World of Laser & Photonics.

The German World of Laser & Photonics, which is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, is a special exhibition show in order to present German pioneering photonic highlights. This event focuses on the three important application areas for innovative products of the photonics industry: “Illumination”, “Life sciences” and “Material processing”. In addition to this special show a symposium is organised where key note speakers from science and economy give short lectures about the current state-of-the-art science and latest technology developments in photonics.

On behalf of all exhibitors, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA), the German Association for Optical, Medical and Mechatronical Technologies (SPECTARIS) and IMAG are looking forward to seeing you at the German Pavilion based at the German World of Laser & Photonics. We wish all participants a successful event.

Dear exhibitor,
Dear visitor,

In Germany, China is often perceived as a low-cost producer and supplier of mass products whose activities jeopardise jobs in our country. The majority of our countrymen is probably not sufficiently aware of the fact that China is a fast growing, booming export market for German goods and thus helps to keep and to create jobs in our high-tech industries. This being said, it should come as no surprise that Laser China 2008 in Shanghai has been chosen as the place for this special event: the German World of Laser & Photonics.

Obviously, light plays a paramount role in our daily life. The most obvious application is lighting, and Shanghai has many examples of how lighting is used to accentuate modern architecture or to influence the ambiance of places, streets, stores or restaurants. In future, the use of light to these ends will grow even further in importance. Especially the latest developments in LED (Light Emitting Diodes) and OLED (Organic LED) technology promise here fascinating new features and applications.

But light is used in many more ways than just for illumination purposes. For instance, light is being used in production processes: for welding and cutting metal sheets, for sensing or for test and measuring purposes. Light is, of course, also at the very backbone of modern telecommunications and transports data, sounds and pictures with an amazing speed across the globe. Furthermore, light can help medical staff in many ways to save and to improve our lives – and the list surely does not end here.

This wealth of applications requires manifold technical and scientific skills. Here, the German industries can draw from a tradition of high-standing expertise in fields such as electronics, mechanical engineering, materials science or – crucial in this context – optics. Both, the wealth of applications and the manifold technical and scientific skills are represented by the German exhibitors at this special event, and their exhibits and services certainly will be met with zealous interest from the Chinese visitors.

Shanghai is a great place for meeting, for exchanging ideas and for trading. So let us take advantage of this opportunity and make things happen at the German World of Laser & Photonics as major and integral part of Laser China 2008!
